A new website for KSK Homes, a student residence in Dubai International Academic City, showing its rooms, cafe and campus life. Behind it sits a staff portal for managing reservations and room status.

Overview

KSK Homes runs purpose-built student housing in Dubai. Students choosing a place to live want to see the rooms, the prices and what life there is like. Staff need a way to see who is in which room and what is coming up next.

Binyam built both sides in one Next.js app. The public site has a video hero, room types with prices, a student life gallery, nearby attractions, a location map and a full menu for the on-site cafe. The staff portal covers reservations, room status, room types and settings.

The portal currently runs on sample data while the booking backend is connected, so every guest name shown is made up.

Features

  • Browse room types with sizes, amenities and prices, and open a room for more detail
  • Read the cafe menu, grouped into coffees, iced drinks, smoothies and juices
  • See every room's reservations on a scrollable timeline, filtered by building and floor
  • Search, filter and page through bookings in a list view, with a draft dock for unfinished ones
  • Create a reservation through a five-step guided form
  • Jump anywhere in the portal with a Ctrl+K command palette, in light or dark mode

Challenges

  • The timeline has to show long stays, pending bookings and maintenance blocks across many rooms without clutter. Each booking is drawn as a bar sized to its dates, colour-coded by status.
  • Dropdowns and popovers kept getting clipped by the scrolling timeline and bleeding through cards. A shared custom select, solid card surfaces and a clear stacking order fixed it across the portal.
  • Remote images on the original site broke often. The images were downloaded and served locally, and the carousels were rebuilt on Embla with autoplay that pauses on hover.
